An Islamic ceramic chess piece of rectangular form with a distinctive notched upper edge. The front is moulded in relief with a central vertical element flanked by symmetrical scrolling and foliate motifs, the decoration extending towards the lower corners. Covered in a dark glaze with extensive craquelure, surface deposits and areas of wear consistent with age.
